Duncan McKenzie to guest at Annual Sporting Dinner 2011
Pontefract Collieries FC are delighted to announce that Leeds United legend Duncan McKenzie has agreed to be the guest speaker at the 2011 Annual Sporting Dinner.
The event, which will take place at the Kings Croft Hotel in Pontefract, will take place on the evening of Saturday 26th February 2011. The event will be compered by former “Commentator of the Year” Malcolm Lord, who is feted for his entertaining style.
Tickets are being sold at £25:00 per person, which includes a four course meal (the Kings Croft being renowned for the quality of its food), entertainments, a presentation by Duncan McKenzie, a late disco, and other activities. Proceeds will go towards the development of the football club, with fundraising activities including a sports memorabilia auction on the evening.
It promises to be a fabulous evening – as anybody who has ever heard either Malcolm or Duncan speak will testify. Event organiser Paul Mitchell said, “we are absolutely thrilled that Duncan and Malcolm have both agreed to help us out. When we sat down to plan this year’s event, they were top of our “wish list” as guest speaker and compere, so to land both of our No 1s is fabulous. It should be a fantastic evening!”

Our M.C/Compere: Malcolm Lord
Following an administrative career with his home town Rugby club, Rochdale Hornets, Malcolm moved into the world of the media as a free lance broadcaster for the BBC.
He has broadcast on Rugby Union from Twickenham, Cricket from many County grounds, Football, from the Vauxhall Conference to the Premier League, and of course his own sport of Rugby League, from Bradford to Brisbane.
Over his 15 year career he was voted “Commentator of the Year” The accolade coming as it did after covering 13 Wembley Cup Finals, 4 World Cup Finals along with a host of internationals
Our Guest Speaker: Duncan McKenzie
Born Grimsby in 1950, he turned professional with Nottingham Forest in 1968. He was brought to Leeds by Brian Clough for £240,000. The manager had but a brief stay but the dazzling showman forward became one of the most popular players ever at Elland Road.
Duncan’s highly-individual skills which brought him some stunning and spectacular goals. Despite being the idol of the Leeds fans and leading goal scorer in 1975/76, he was sold to Anderlecht for £200,000, after playing 76 games and scoring 30 goals. He soon returned to England and saw service with Everton, Chelsea and Blackburn Rovers before heading for the United States and later Hong Kong. A True Leeds United Legend!
