Player profile: Gary Lumley

Gary “Joanna” Lumley joined the Colls part-way into the 2011-12 Season, following his old team-mate Will Ramsay in making the short trip from Selby Town.

Since joining the team, Gary showed his patience and maturity in waiting his chance, putting in some outstanding performances in training and Reserve games, while waiting for an opening in the first team. His break came when Johnny Forsyth departed for London, breaking up his thriving early-season partnership with Tom Robinson. Gary slotted in immediately alongside “Prince”, forming an effective partnership almost immediately. In fact, the team won their first three games together, conceding just one goal in the process.

Gary clearly loves a header – a trait that is admired by his manager, who was himself no slouch in the air. Gary has rarely lost a header in his time at the club, and his combative approach has added some steel to the Ponte back line.

Gary’s father, Paul, can be seen alongside Brendon Ormsby in the dug-out on many occasion, alternating physio duties with Becky Heeley-Richards.
