Player profile: Steve Lyon

Despite still being only 25 years of age, Steve Lyon is one of the most experienced players in the young Colls team, and has made a terrific start to his career with The Colls.

Having initially struggled to turn his form into goals, Steve opened his Colls account with the winner against Handsworth. Since then, he has not been able to stop scoring. When he scores, it is normally a crucial goal in a crucial game – the winner against Rossington being a prime example.

“Lightning” Lyon is a quality player, terrific in possession, with quick feet and a good turn of pace. It is no surprise that he names Dennis Bergkamp as his favourite player, given the similarities between the two. Initially a winger, he can take players on and beat them, and regularly plays the role of goal provider.

Having played at a higher level with both Bridlington Town, Selby Town and York City, Steve also brings vital know-how to a youthful squad of players, and adds a crucial element of control to the team in possession. Much of the credit for bringing Steve to the club belongs to Assistant Manager Duncan Bray, who rates Steve as one of the best all-round strikers he has ever seen or played with. After a steady start, Ponte are starting to see why the management team were so keen to secure his services.
