U12s reach County Cup semi-finals
Pontefract Collieries Under 12s have made it through to the semi finals of the West Yorkshire County Cup, following a 1-0 win at Sutton in Craven on Sunday.
Ponte’s usually flowing football was hard to come by on a field that would have been more suited to playing host to cows than footballers. Despite the state of the pitch, Ponte played as well as could be expected, getting the crucial breakthrough midway through the first half with a brilliant finish from Isaac Leach.
Sutton did threaten on a few occasions but were thwarted by an outstanding back line of Bradley Watson, Mitch McHugh, Sam Wright and Ben Watts.
The midfield of Zak Wilkinson, Josh Powell, Fraser Walker, Isacc Leach, Joe Winstanley, Benji Morton, Coby Glew and Morgan Parsons battled like Trojans to try and keep Ponte going forward through the mud.
Strikers Ty Bryer and Brogan Foster played well to get some good shots in which were saved by a very good Sutton keeper.
Ponte Colls now play the winners of the tie between Garforth Rangers and Rothwell Town. The match is scheduled to be played at 7:30pm on 22nd February at the West Riding County FA Headquarters at Fleet Lane, weather-permitting.
