Pontefract Collieries U15’s 0 – 0 Ardsley Athletic U15’s

This top 3 clash certainly didn’t disappoint as each side looked to gain an advantage over their promotion rivals.  This was a thoroughly entertaining encounter played in blustery conditions.  The visitors playing with the wind in their favour in the 1st half, looked to put Pontefract under pressure, but it was loan striker Mackenzie Northern that was causing the visitors defence problems.  Collieries had the first major opening, when Matty Ayre worked his way into a goal scoring position, but was unable to connect properly to test the keeper.  The home defence were working hard, along with Billy Jones, Bradley Shaw and skipper Matthew Speakman in a 5 man midfield.  Pontefract, with the wind at their backs for the 2nd half were confident of gaining the advantage, by pressing their opponents.   Both teams had half chances to open the scoring, but the best chance fell to Sam Millard, who saw his fine strike go inches wide of the post with the visitor’s keeper well beaten.  The visitors however we looking dangerous on the break and forced a couple of good saves from keeper Andy Sykes.  The home side nearly snatched the points when the excellent Northern, forced a fine save from the Ardsley keeper at the depth.  Best for Collieries, were Adam Smethurst, Matthew Speakman, Mackenzie Northern and Man of The Match Sam Millard, who was excellent at the back.

Pontefract Collieries U15’s 4 – 3 Normanton Athletic U15’s

Pontefract returned to winning ways with a classy display in this league encounter.  After going 2 weeks without a game, Collieries were determined to put 2 consecutive league defeats behind them and hit the ground running by taking the lead after just 2 minutes, through a Jack Amery header.  Pontefract doubled their lead after 7 minutes, when the impressive Mackenzie Northern scored on his debut.  The home side were playing some great football at this point and really took the match to Normanton, with the host defence generally coping with any danger at the other end.  Collieries went 3-0 up when Martin Rogers beat the offside trap to claim his 3rd goal of the season.  Right on the half-time whistle, the visitors got back into the game by pulling a goal back.  The 2nd half was a much closer affair, with Matthew Speakman working well in Midfield.  Northern battled well to score his 2nd to make it 4-1, after it looked like the scoring opportunity had gone.  Collieries were guilty of losing a grip on the game which resulted in Normanton pulling 2 goals back, which gave the score line some respectability, but Pontefract were deserving winners to keep up their title push.  Best for Pontefract were Andy Sykes, Kyle Huddlestone, Adam Smethurst, Sam Millard, Matthew Speakman and debutant Mackenzie Northern.  Bradley Shaw took the Man of The Match award for his tireless display.

Ward Green Under 15s 8 v 1 Pontefract Collieries U15s

Pontefract were unfortunately no match for their hosts in this League 2 encounter.  Collieries fell behind from a corner, which was headed in at the far post.  The home side doubled their lead, with a low strike from the edge of the area, which keeper Sykes got his hand too but was unable keep out.  Pontefract got themselves back into the game, as Taylor Kitchen showed strength to out muscle the last defender and lob the keeper from 18 yards.  However, the game was more of less over as a contest, after a fantastic strike from 25 yards and a 2nd from Ward Green’s No 9, made the score 4-1 at half-time.  Collieries we playing down the slop in the 2nd half, but this didn’t stop the home side adding a further 4 goals to the tally.  Pontefract were forced into a few positional changes due to injury and illness, but were no match for Ward Green.  Bradley Shaw was superb and thoroughly deserved the man of the match award for his tireless display.  There were good contributions from Taylor Kitchen, Matthew Speakman and Kyle Huddlestone, but overall this was a disappointing performance and one that Collieries need to put behind them if they are going to challenge for promotion.

Tingley Athletic U15s 6v2 Pontefract Colls U15s

The young Coll’s took a battering and never looked like winning this clash against a team who will probably be their nearest rivals for the the league title. Tingley went two up very quickly with Some good, on the floor passing football in pretty miserable conditions.

Just before half time Inform striker Jack Amery took control of the ball and hit a 35yard scorcher and the keeper off his line had no chance. Ponte were happy to be going in at half time only 1-2 down.

Second half Ponte looked tired and just not up for this match leaving the back four to take all the hammer with only Brad Shaw giving them a bit of support. Tingley fired in a further 4 goals with Sam Millard getting Ponte’s 2nd.

A game Ponte would like to put behind them, however they still remain top of the league. Best for Ponte was Jack Amery and Bradley Shaw with the latter taking the Man of the match.

Pontefract Collieries Under 15’s 12 v 0 Stanley United

Pontefract were in unforgiving mood, against their Division 2 opponents.  The game was more or less over as a contest after 15 minutes, after 2 goals from Jack Amery, with a great Martin Rogers effort sandwiched in between.  Collieries were not prepared to take their foot off the gas, and with 2 further well created goals from Sam Millard and Matthew Speakman, putting the game beyond the visitors.  This wasn’t the end of the 1st half scoring however, as the league leaders added further goals from Jimmy Watson, who was enjoying the freedom of the right flank, Bradley Shaw and Martin Rogers with his 2nd of the game, leaving the score line 8-0 at half-time.

Pontefract were able to give the full squad a run-out and found their opponents a little more difficult to break down, but were also guilty of over confidence with everyone wanting to get in on the act.  Normal service was resumed, with Jimmy Watson slotting home before further changes were made to allow Jack Amery to notch his hatrick, and add a couple more for a personal tally of 5 goals, which ultimately won him the man of the match award.  This by no means least, was a one man show and Pontefract gave a superb team performance in the 1st half and completely outclassed the visitors.  On this form is it difficult to see anyone knocking them off that top spot.   There were numerous outstanding performance, but credit went to Jimmy Watson, Bradley Shaw (for this 2nd half performance in defence), Matthew Speakman, Jack Amery and Martin Rogers, but credit goes to the whole squad for a great effort.

Ossett Town Under 15’s 5 v 1 Pontefract Collieries

Pontefract gave a good display for the majority of this Invitation Cup 1st Round class, but eventually fell to their higher division opponents.  The first 15 minutes was evenly matched and with the back four of Jordan Westwood, Kyle Huddlestone, Taylor Kitchen and Billy Johnson, dealing with everything that the home side through at them the visitors were matching their hosts. Collieries were unfortunate not to take the lead after a mix up between the home keeper and a defender which saw a shot from Jack Amery take a slight deflection and go wide.  Ossett took the lead after 20 minutes with a speculative shoot that managed to creep inside the far post.  The lead was doubled 10 minutes later, as Ponty fell asleep to allow a short corner to be taken which gave keeper Ryan Harper no chance and established a 2-0 cushion into the half-time break.  Collieries came out all guns blazing and opened their account 5 minuets into the restart.  Kyle Huddlestone delivered in a great free kick from the left edge of the area and Matthew Speakman rose to head into the far corner for his 2nd goal of the season.  At this point Pontefract were on top but the killer blow came after Town’s striker slotted home from a rebound off keeper Harper.   This put the result beyond doubt and Ossett went on to score 2 more goals in the last 10 minutes.  Pontefract made a few changes which allowed all substitutes to have run.   Collieries can be proud of their display and the score line was unfair on the visitors and can take heart

going into the rest of the league campaign.  Best for Collieries were Kitchen, Matthew Speakman and Bradley Shaw who battled well, but the Man of the match award went to Kyle Huddlestone who was superb at the heart of the defence.

Pontefract Collieries Under 15’s 3 v 2 Tingley Athletic

Pontefract showed great battling spirit to take all 3 points from this highly entertaining league fixture.  Collieries saw a 2-0 lead wiped away by an excellent Tingley side, but managed to take the spoils with a Bradley Shaw winner 10 minutes from time.  Pontefract were good value for their 1-0 interval lead, with Jack Amery opening the scoring after 10 minutes, after good work from Jordan Westwood and Martin Rogers.  In a tight 2nd half, Tingley took the game to Ponty, but found themselves 2 down, after Martin Rogers chased what seemed to be a lost cause by cutting the ball back from the bye line to allow Matthew Speakman to slot home.  The home side were then guilty of allowing the visitors to press forward and conceded 2 goals, the latter being a 25 yard free kick.  This however spurned the home side into action and missed chances to seal the game, until Shaw rose highest to power in a header from a Westwood corner.  Best for Ponty were Keeper Ryan Harper, along wih the back four of Billy Johnson, Jordan Westwood, Kylie Huddlestone and Taylor Kitchen.  Martin Rogers took the Man of The Match award who looked dangerous through out. The coaching staff however gave credit to all the team for showing great fighting spirit in warm conditions.

Normanton Ath U15s 0 – 2 Pontefract Colls U15s

Pontefract were made to work before securing all 3 points, in their opening Division 2 game against a plucky Normanton side.  Collieries squandered numerous first half chances, before Taylor Kitchen strolled forward from defence before rounding the keeper to slot home.  Striker Jack Amery was unlucky not to add to the scoring, having seen a number of chance go agonisingly wide and by good work from the home keeper.  The game should have been over as a contest in the 1st half, but credit must go to the home side who only had 10 fit players.  Pontefract started to play some good football in the 2nd half, but were no means at their best.  It took a well taken strike from Sam Millard to seal the win.  Best for Collieries were Taylor Kitchen, Ryan Harper, Bradley Shaw, Sam Millard and Man of The Match Matthew Speakman
