Durkar drew first blood against the run of play, with strikers Lewis Osborne and leading goal scorer Warren Redford (pictured below) having a number of chances saved or hitting the woodwork in an entertaining long awaited match.
New signing Aaron Carrigan came on in the 2nd half and quickly made an impression which saw Ponte take the lead with Mcdermott and Appleton both scoring. Ponte could have sealed this victory and taken all 3 points, however the Durkar keeper had a great game and thwarted many shots on goal.

Pontefract Colls U16s 2-0 Higham Juniors U16s – 27/09/2009
With three influential players missing it was time to throw some of the pre-season new squad members in to the mix, the Gilbertson twins Sheridan and Clarke were very impressive and proved that all the pre-season hard work will definitely be paying off this season. Ponte never looked like losing and commanded the game throughout.
Lewis Osborne had his best game this season and scored from the penalty spot with Ryan Mcdermott hitting home the second with no reply from Higham. Also impressive for ponte were Micky Crookes, Joe Reed and Callum Green. Making his debut and keeping a clean sheet, Tom King did well in goal.
The young Colls look like they will be a formidable team this season and will be the team everyone will strive to beat, however with a fierce on-going training regime and quality new signings the early signs are promising.

Ossett Albion 1 – 4 Pontefract Colls U16s – 13/09/2009
Ponte Scorers – Redford 24, 50 – Appleton 37 – Mackey 73
There was only going to be one winner in Pontefract Colls U16s first game of the season in the Charles Rice Premier Division. Ponte started the match very strong and quickly tested Ossett Albion’s massive keeper who had a very good game in keeping the score down for Ossett. Lewis Osborne had two very good chances in the first 10mins, however just took it round one too many defender before getting his shots off. Sustained pressure resulted in three corners in succession and Ossett were well up to the task of defending them, with the keeper making yet another fine save with a tip over the bar from a Warren Redford power drive.
Captain Danny Mackey in midfield played the captains roll with a massive first half for Ponte and all the good play was directed through him putting some lovely balls through to Ryan McDermott on the right wing, who in turn put some serious pressure on the Ossett back line with some fine crosses.
The inevitable and a long time coming came on 24mins with Mackey and McDermott combining well to thread Redford through and put Ponte in the lead 0-1.
A good break and weaving run from Osborne with a fine ball through to Redford brought the Ossett keeper in to action again with a finger tip over the bar.
Ossett had a rare first half moment in the Ponte half with a thunderous free kick, however safely in to the arms of Ryan Fletcher, who didn’t put a foot wrong all game.
On 37mins a good ball in from kieron Wright and headed on from McDermott for Nick Appleton to strike home to make it 0-2. Three more chances came for Ponte from Appleton McDermott with Osborne finding the back of the net, only to be ruled offside.
2ndHalf saw Ossett Albion come right back in to the game with their influential number 10 picking up the pace for Ossett with some powerful cutting runs through the Ponte midfield and sure enough the next powerful run resulted in a perfect cross for Ossett to strike back 1-2 on 42mins. Ossett piled on the pressure and had a very good spell and Ponte midfield seemed to be asleep, however the back four soaked up the pressure with Fletcher pulling of a couple of decent saves.
A couple of substitutions Clarke and Sheridan Gilberston livened things up for Ponte with Clarke’s strong aggressive running down the right-hand side forcing another couple of good saves from the Albion keeper. A back to life Ponte saw Callum Green come close with a cracking long range effort and Michael Crookes forcing the keeper in to another save.
Then came a wonder goal on 50mins from Redford at the edge of the box the ball dropped nicely and with his back to goal decided to execute a bicycle kick which flew in to the net and probably gave him the goal of the season anywhere in the country, let alone in the premier division of the Charles Rice U15s League.
Mackey finished the job off with a goal on 73mins to make it a final score of 1-4. All in all Ponte looked a little rusty but were always going to run out eventual winners. The back four of Zach Spiers, Grant Chapman, Wright and debutant Karl Abbott all had decent games and things look very good for Pontefract Collieries Juniors this season. Man of the match – Warren Redford
